Most of us will head out into the wild for a camping adventure during the summer months. After all, there is no greater time to be outdoors. Even so, with the family jostling about in a tent, things can get a little stuffy. And, without proper ventilation this can seriously impact the quality of your sleep and impact your morning hike plans. However, the best tent for hot weather can make a significant difference for the entire family.
What Makes a Great Tent for Hot Weather?
Not all tents are made equal, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just means that you need to be careful when selecting the right tent for camping in hot weather. Considering this, keep our top tips at the front of your mind when selecting your summer tent.
- Roomy Interior: Our bodies create lots of extra heat, and this heat will get trapped in a small tent. For this reason, tents should have ample room for you and your companions. Avoid the stuffy nights and get a tent with a little extra breathing room.
- Excellent Ventilation: This goes without saying, but it should be mentioned. For instance, ventilation can be zippered windows, louvered roofs, and mesh screens.
- Breathable Materials: The more mesh, the better in hot weather. For example, you’ll find lots of mesh sides and top panels in 3 season tents (less so in a 4 season tent). These mesh windows are necessary to vent hot air and keep insects at bay. However, be sure your tent is equipped with a waterproof rain fly to cover it in case of rain.
- Weight: Another aspect we look for in a good hot weather tent is its overall weight. Whereas you may be able to park next to camp, you may well find yourself trekking many miles to settle. We find that a nice lightweight tent not only help lighten your hiking load, lighter tents mean cooler tents with more ventilation.

As you can see from the above, there are lots of options for campers headed out into the heat. However, we’ll go over them more below to help you find the perfect fit.
1. CORE 11 Person Cabin w/ Screen Room
Our absolute favorite for large families is the Core 11 person Cabin.
Overall, we found this tent ticks all of the boxes for a family of 11 people, however it also would work well for a family of 6 that love loads of space.
Furthermore, with the addition of a screen room, CORE has one of the most spacious tents with impressive ventilation.
Sleeps 11 People
First off, it’s hard to ignore the fact that this is a monstrous tent! For the family looking for something to sleep an entire herd of people, this is the solution.
In this case, the Core Cabin boasts enough space to sleep 11 people. Additionally, this tent has an extended communal area with a ceiling of 7 feet!
Furthermore, in the sleeping quarters, you will find enough room for up to three queen mattresses.
Not only does this allow for more people to stay in the tent but it provides a good deal of room for air circulation.
While it technically sleeps 11, these people will truly be tucked in there like sardines. We’d actually recommend this tent to be for 6-8 people or 6 people and a couple dogs. Especially in the sticky summer months.
CORE H20 Block Technology
Even though the weather might be hot, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be a rain shower. But, this won’t be an issue with the Core H20 Block technology that will keep you dry no matter when the heavens open.
While many tents are water resistant, the Core Cabin is one of the best performers for water repellency that we’ve found.

We found this to be one of the best budget friendly tents for all that it provides an avid camper.

For extremely hot weather, you need a tent with maximum breathability. Thanks to the large mesh walls, the ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr meets that need with no problem at all.
With the addition of a gear loft and lots of floor space this tent is ideal when you need that little bit more breathing room.
Easy To Put Up
This is a freestanding tent that requires nothing more than two poles for support.

Hot summer months can be a real bear if you’re pitching a 4 season tent that traps heat. However, choosing your tent for a hot climate can be super simple when keeping just a few features in mind:
